故事发生在清朝末年，当时淮河瘟疫肆虐，龙大爷与结拜金兰方秀才赴疫区救治，却发现此疫为人祸，凶手是与大奶奶（陈莎莉 饰）通奸的龙二爷（李子雄 饰）。二爷不念手足之情，联手大奶奶将胞兄杀死，然后嫁祸方秀才，方夫人逃命途中错抱龙二私生子。数年后，龙家后代被关家收养，取名厚朴（钟汉良 饰），他成长于悬壶济世的关家，自幼学会了慈悲为怀。而方家之子舞笙（刘恺威 饰）则娇生惯养，成了少爷。他俩都对镜心（吕一 饰）产生爱意，而镜心则更顷心于厚朴。龙家的莲生（杨蕊 饰）也是非厚朴不嫁，但她并不知道厚朴是她的亲哥哥。就在这时，方秀才妻子回来了，她要讨回当年死去的冤魂......。In 1962 an unknown group from Liverpool entered Abbey Road Studios to record their debut single.
